Australian Animation- a Cane Toad's Life

Enjoy?
This hilarious piece of Australiana is a species of cultural artifact we Aussies have become quite good at recently- the animated short film. With an animated short in the Academy Awards every year for the last three years our animators have become quite adept at producing work that is quirky, of a very high quality and worth bucket loads of awards.
Unfortunately, unlike Daz’s search for his mate Baz, the big award winning animations aren’t for free public viewing (except Birthday Boy) so if you want to check them out you’ll have to visit your local vid store or fork out the cash for them new (a short film actually costs just as much as a full length feature. How does that work?). But if you’d like to check them out some more I’ve found some of the best links on the net to check out.
So if Australian short animations are so good why don’t we have any full length Australian animation features? The good news is that we soon will with the most promising full length animation since Blinky Bill being released on Boxing Day this year. It’s called Happy Feet and it’s a movie about a penguin that is outcasted because he cant sing. It looks quirky, it looks like a quality piece of work and could even be worth an award or two so things are looking good across the board. Pity it’s an American co-production. <Sigh> Oh well, not quite all Aussie.
Here’s those links:

And if you do know of any other quality animation produced by Australians just give me a yell, leave a comment or something, and I’ll add them to the list. Better still I’ll host it here for all the Aussie culture lovers to see.
