Beer Ad- Guide Dog
September 21st 2006 23:55
This ad kind of sums up the archetypal Australian beer ad. Faced with a problem (which usually involves not being able to have a drink) the hero uses their wits and dry humour to overcome their situation.
Whether it's jumping from the second storey onto a beanbag to get your beer, building the ultimate shed, inventing a bunch of robots for some free time, or declaring your patriotism as an excuse to have a drink, the humour and theme are almost universal in Australian beer ads. Even in ads that dont follow this theme, the characters are often people you would find participating in this kind of activity (think the Big Ad or the VB kebab ads) and shows us that we even have an archetypal beer ad character who is a modern rendition of the urban larrikin. Ads that dont follow these themes just dont feel like proper beer ads.
