Okay. Enough is enough....

I've had enough. After an eternal hiatus its time to get the Telegraph kicking over again. Unfortunately I'm still suffering from a lack of internet connection, so things are still going to be a bit dodgy, but I've discovered my local library and its bank of internet connected typing machines so at least something will make it out into blog land.
So, a quick reprisal of what's been happening since I've been offline.
EVERYTHING!!!!!!
I take a month off from blogging and the most interesting things to have happened to the Australian culture industry all year occur. Just my luck >
-First cab off the rank is Kenny which has been rip snorting (at least by local standards) up the box office charts, clocking up $6 million and still rising! Your typical Hollywood movie makes up to 40% of its box office in the first week and quickly freefalls thereafter but Kenny has decided that its not going to obey the laws of box office physics, its weekly take heading sideways for about 14 weeks now. It's already the highest earning local film of the year and at its current rate will make $7.5 million. Go Kenny!
-Footy finals came and went (yes, that's how long I've been offline) with some amazing figures. For the AFL the news wasn't that good with figures down a few hundred thousand on last year but the League was extraordinary with a larger viewing audience in Melbourne than in League heartland Sydney. Quite bizarre really. For the record the ratings were the same as in 2005, just a massive geographic relocation.
-The music industry has been going great guns as well with up to nine local albums occupying the top twenty in any given week. The ARIA awards also went well with the usual controversy and, well, controversy, but it also displayed the massive amount of musical talent coming out of our very own country. It seems that every year we bust out another Jet, or Wolfmother, or Veronicas, or INXS, or AC/DC, or <insert world famous band here> and the variety of quality music is incredible.
Not only that but the ARIAs has given a nice little boost to a few artists record sales. Bernard Fanning's Tea and Sympathy has been on the ARIA charts for so long they've stopped counting. No joke, check the chart).
-The TV charts also got a shake up in the last month. Shock! Horror! Border Security wasn't number one. Actually, it wasn't number one because it finished its season, which finally gave someone else a shot at the top spot. Apart from that though it's been a fairly mundane month now that the footy is over, but our locals have still been doing well.
-Boytown was released to the biggest debut of a local this year with just under $1 million for its opening weekend. Unfortunately its not as good as [I]Crackerjack[I] so it will struggle to make $4 million, but it has helped make 2006 a fairly successful year in box office land which has now surpassed 2005 and is looking like being in the top ten results of the last twenty years. Sure, its still not earth shattering, but after the doomsday predictions following 2004 having two years in a row that busted the $20 million mark will have the local industry's blood pressure down just a little bit extra.
And there was heaps more as well but I forget or was offline when it happened so I cant really tell you about it.
Anyways, its good top be slaving over the typing machine again and giving the local culture industry a little bit of the spotlight again. Again, sorry to the people who check on this blog regulary, and to those who are still about the place my reports will be a bit sketchy, a bit all over the place, but hopefully when they do make it to the net they'll still be able to give people a good idea of what's going on culturally speaking here in the land of rising mortgage rates and extremely happy Japanese jockeys.
Stay tuned for more....
