Steve Irwin- a good bloke
September 4th 2006 23:08
Just thought I'd pay my respects to Steve Irwin after his unfortunate passing this week.
Some people loved him, some people loathed him, but I dont think you'd come across many people who questioned his passion or the good he did for both the environment and his community. Whether it was promoting Australia or helping out the Sunshine Coast Steve could never be called selfish. Not only that but all the over the top antics weren't an act- he'd be like that off screen just as much on screen. He was just a very passionate man.
Unfortunately in life the good often die way before their time and I think that applys no more than with Steve.
Here's to one of the most passionate men in the world, one of the greatest conservasionists ever seen, an awesome family man and, above all, a really good bloke.
We'll miss you Steve.

As to questioning the good he did for the environment, here's one exception: Germaine Greer apparently wrote an opinion piece in some UK newspaper along the lines of "Nature has had its revenge." Her take is that there was no habitat that was too fragile for Irwin to trample into, and that every animal he waved in front of the camera was confused and afraid.
