This Weeks Top Twenty Albums

NOT happy.
ARIA Album Chart Report- 31st July
Local Content Score- 5 of top 20
Yeah, that’s right- that album is still in number one spot. I refuse to talk about it. It will just upset me. Not happy at all.
Pretty quiet week for locals with five Aussie groups in the Top Twenty (well, four and a half really- one’s Evermore) and only one debut way down in number twenty. Black Fingernails, Red Wine was in at number three and still going strong while The Rogue Traders have improved their position to fourth after forty one weeks in the Top Twenty. Not to be outdone The Veronicas made it to ninth spot, up from sixteenth last week.
Evermore were the big local under-performers this week sliding all the way back to nineteenth after only four weeks in the top twenty but managed to beat out the fifth local on the Twenty charts this week, the staidly named Sunrise- Concert Series by various artists. I’m kinda hoping that Sunrise is a classical music compilation and not the soundtrack to a popular morning show. Please don’t tell me that Koshie has released a music album...
But that was about it. One interesting thing to note is that over the last two months there has been an average of just over five local artists a week in the Top Twenty which goes to show that we do have a reasonably strong local music industry. Sure it’s dominated by American stuff but two of the top four selling albums in the Twenty are Australian so we’re obviously happy to buy good Aussie music. Let’s hope it continues.
