This Weeks Top Twenty Albums

Someone should tell The Rogue Traders and The Veronicas that what they’re doing is defying the Law of Sales.
ARIA Album Chart Report- 14th August
Local Content Score- 4 of top 20
It’s been a pretty quiet week regarding Australians buying Australian music. With only four locals in the Top Twenty and no new additions from last week there’s not a lot to talk about beyond the absurd (re) rise of The Rogue Traders and The Veronicas.
Up until three weeks ago both these local bands had albums that were slowly working their way down the charts after very long stays near the top. The Veronicas even left the Twenty. There was nothing unusual about this; it was perfectly normal behaviour for successful albums. I was all ready to break out the respectfully clapping guard of honour as they made their final goodbyes and left the Twenty with a truck load of sales, three shiny platinum trophies each and a place in the Australian album hall of remembrance for the next addition of Long Way to the Top. Apparently though, somewhere between their third platinum and last week, The Rogues realised that they never actually managed to get a better position than second place on the charts. Offended by this sleight on their honour they’ve obviously become hell-bent on correcting the situation, this being their forty second week on the charts or not, and The Veronicas have figured that if a group of dangerously out-of-line share traders can do it then so can a set of fashionista twins from Brisvegas. Hence we have two of the longest serving albums in the Top Twenty climbing back towards the top of the Top Twenty chart.
How they are doing this I don’t know but I bet Eskimo Joe’s marketing managers are hoping it rubs off on them. Personally I couldn’t be happier if Rogue Traders clawed their way to the top as it’s already given me the mental image of one very spunky ex-Neighbours star taking a guitar to the cast of one fiendishly evil group of American teenagers atop a mountain of records. Upon beating them into submission they’re sent sprawling into the black void and past the boys from Eskimo Joe and the girls from The Veronicas who’re fourth and seventh highest up the mountain respectfully....
And I’m taking this waaaay too far.
The Rogues are in at third, Eskimo Joe is in at fourth, The Veronicas made their way up to seventh and that mysterious Sunrise Concert Series by ‘Various’ improved its standing by two to leave it at eighteenth.
