This Weeks Top Twenty Albums
August 21st 2006 23:34
A shake up at the top this week as a local movie star makes it into the Top Twenty.
ARIA Album Chart Report- 21st August
Local Content Score- 5 of top 20
WooHoo! We have a new number one! Sure it’s try-hard, American pop-slut but I cant be too picky- anything to get Highschool the Musical out of number one.
The biggest news of the week for local content is that the Rogue Traders actually went down the list for once, as opposed to going up the list, which they are prone to doing. It wasn’t a big drop though as it moved to fourth from third, but it was still a move in the normal direction for an album now forty three weeks in the Top Twenty.
Behind the Rogues was Eskimo Joe in at sixth for their lowest ranking to date and The Veronicas who also dropped one spot from last week to eighth. I’m surprised that the Eskimos still haven’t landed their second platinum yet, as they’ve had a good run at the top. Hopefully it’s not far off.
In at fourteenth was an interesting new local artist- one Mr Hugh Jackman. No, he hasn’t given away his day job as a professional script reader, it’s actually the soundtrack to The Boy From Oz and I suppose that it’s only natural that the lead actor/singer of a one man musical would have their name on the cover of the album. Still, Australian Hollywood actors on the ARIA charts is not something you see everyday so it will be interesting to see how this album goes (actually there are rumours that a certain Miss Collette could be taking up a microphone. Is this a new trend where, instead of pop stars trying to be actors, we have actors trying to be pop stars? It’s worked for the Rogue Traders).
Finally, we have Evermore back in the Twenty after a short hiatus. Have to admit that one particular song from Real Life has been giving me plenty of grief lately, firmly lodged in my skull stuck on repeat. (I’m really resisting the urge to make a joke about it running around in my head...)
Oh, and yeah, I finally stopped being lazy and found out what that Sunrise- Concert Series album was. My goodness, it WAS a Kochie product! Channel 7 strikes again and for once I was impressed. Not a bad album from a peruse of the playlist. However I am getting the feeling that there’s only room for one omnipresent TV personality in Australia and Kochie is coming very close to offending the big Eddie. What will he come back with? The Footy Show soundtrack? Someone help us if he does...
