This Weeks Top Twenty TV Shows

Big Brother dominated last week as it wrapped things up and Friday Night Football made an appearance as we get to the business end of the football season.
Top 20 Metropolitan TV Ratings 23rd- 29th July
Local Content Score- 15 of top 20
Big Brother did Channel Ten proud last week as it achieved three shows in the Top Twenty. Its final show made it to second spot with over 1.879 million viewers, the final eviction show was fifth with 1.735 million viewers and the double eviction made it to tenth with 1.54 million. Not a bad total haul and goes to show you that a few politicians saying nasty things about your television program is a very good thing.
Getaway also did pretty well last week, making it to eighth with over 1.5 million viewers; very good for a travel show. Anyone know what destinations were visited? Might show us something interesting about Australia’s favourite aspirational holiday destinations.
In fourteenth was Better Homes and Gardens and at sixteenth was Friday Night Football which saw two games with very well supported teams on show. One of the frustrating things about football ratings is that they include both the NRL and AFL games as ‘Friday Night Football’ which can then be split into different games for different states. This makes it hard to work out what’s rating well and what isn’t but it’s fairly obvious that the run up to the finals is boosting ratings for both the codes.
Behind the football was It Takes Two in at seventeenth and Home and Away at twentieth. When you consider soapies are on every weeknight it’s gotta be a good money spinner having one in the Top Twenty. Also highlights how dominant Home and Away has become in the evening soapie wars. When it’s a choice between bogans in the suburbs and hotties on the beach Australians appreciate a good piece of scenery. And so we should.
Oh, and last week I was talking about the not altogether untimely demise of Channel 7's nostalgia shocker Where Are They Now?. It’s back on Sunday! Joy, bliss, happiness- another show featuring Kochie and the crew. <Barf>
Next week? Well Aussie Idol is back and they'll no doubt be up there somewhere for the run up to Summer so it will be interesting to see whether they're hot out of the gate or they take some time to get in tune. Comparing the ratings to last season will be interesting to see whether Australians are still fascinated with pop idoldom but the show seems to have its act together so my guess is full steam ahead.
